Stumbled across this great site dedicated to the Yamaha R5. Lawrence O’Toole started the website after he purchased this R5C and couldn’t find much information on them. He originally thought it would be a good way to document his R5 resurrection project but it has become a handy source of information for many R5 owners around the globe. There’s not much information out there about the R5 because they weren’t made for very long, the two-stroke was only manufactured from 1970 – 1972. We are told these bikes are surprisingly fast for their size and age, lifting the front wheel in the first two gears and keeping up with modern bikes twice their size. I think we’ll have to keep an eye out on Ebay for one of these two-stroke pocket rockets. To see more pics of Lawrence’s R5 check out his comprehensive site.
