Pulse Jet Board Racer Bicycle

Written by Andrew Jones (AKA Pamberjack)

Ever had one of those moments where you’re having a few drinks with friends and you come up with a great idea? You know the kind – usually they involve movie scripts or fast food creations. My dad says “everyone has a brilliant idea now and then, but it’s the people that do something about them that matter.” Well, meet Robert Maddox. His moment of enlightenment involved a old-school Electra bicycle and a pulse jet engine. What’s a pulse jet engine you ask? It’s a stupidly simple form of jet engine that was invented over 100 years ago. You may also know it by its other name – the German V-1 Flying Bomb. Here's a video of Robert test riding his unique creation:

Amazing stuff. And as you can see, this isn’t your usual backyard botch-job. This guy obviously lives and breathes this stuff. Just look at the details; the 1940s styling and the board tracker influences, white tires and acres of polished chrome. Wanna know the best bit? He sells them.

holy f**n moly, this is insane... I know Electra bicycles quite well, and to experiment THIS speed with THAT material, man... respect. Bearings, brakes, tires, wheels, welds... I never would try it. As I said, respect - a lodda!

Ride one through London and give old people flashbacks and heart attacks.

Amazing!! That is a hell of a design and concept. Time to add another dream bike to the list.

wow scary to see that he only has regular brakes on that, they're even dodgy on a racer.

I just cant imagine not upgrading and reinforcing the bike itself if you are going to do something insane like that.

@Stitch If you read more about the guy, he's a bit of an engineering legend. I'm totally sure he's got the whole thing triple checked and all the sums done. Previous to this, he jumped out of a plane with a pulse jet on his back and FLEW. I reckon he would have done the maths on that little stunt...

I don't know if I would ride one but after looking into him it seems he has more than likely looked everything through thoroughly. I bet it is one heck of an experience at 50mph much less 80mph! Thanks for sharing this.

Wow that is absolutely incredible. Both videos are wonderful. It's mentioned that he sells them on eBay. Would you happen to have a link? I really liked the second video. And that comment about flying with one on his back while jumping from a plane is amazing.

Thanks for sharing.
