Trip to Deus

Posted on April 11, 2009 by Scott in Classic, Racer. No Comments

I love going to Deus. I don’t enjoy going there with my ankle biters but hey i had no choice today.

They have so many great bikes in every corner. Discovered this little beauty in one of the corners today (next to the fire extinguisher and water cooler). A Yamaha R5 350cc from the seventies. Makes me want to put on my leathers and take on Mr Stoner.
I love the description (sales pitch) on the the ‘price tag’. If you can’t read it heres what it says…
“350cc 2 stroke bike with disc brake upgrade. Will need very little to get up and running again. Go racing, its fun, it’ll make you a better rider, meet new friends, meet beautiful women, get rich, get bigger muscles, rub shoulders with super stars,…” I’ll take two (not that i need bigger muscles)!

Yesterday… all my troubles seemed so far away

Yesterdays is a place in the Netherlands that specializes in antique motorcycles. They have a range of bikes from 1900’s to the 1950’s. I prefer the 1950’s end like the Nortons and BMW’s but its interesting looking at all the beautiful bikes of the past on their website. For all my American readers they even have some old Harleys and Indians. They do ship worldwide if  you see a bike you have to have…

Going Bananas for monkeys!

Posted on March 30, 2009 by Scott in Classic, Other. 1 Comment

Found this custom shop in the UK that specialize in Honda Monkeys and Gorillas. They are called Monkey Bike (that explains it). They are not my style but I love some of the photos they have on their website. My favourite is the mean looking dude standing next to his hotted up monkey… now that is so bad ass buddy. Would be really funny to see a bikie gang that all ride these things… Maybe they could be called the Hells Monkeys?…

King of Cool – The Scrambler

Posted on March 29, 2009 by Scott in Classic, Scrambler. No Comments

For guys who really want to be like Steve, the Triumph Scrambler is the bike for you. You can even order a “278” number board, McQueen’s entry when he raced in the 1964 International Six-Day Trials in East Germany. I have to be honest and say that I personally believe Steve McQueen is probably one of the coolest men to have walked this planet. And yes I love this modern take on the classic.

The Scrambler is based largely on the Bonneville T100 streeter. Although the suspension has been raised 2 inches over the Bonneville, for improved ground clearance. So you can take it off road onto dirt tracks but I am told its not the most comfortable ride.

I love that Triumph are still making these nostalgic bikes. I am not sure I would choose this over the Thruxton though. I think the Thruxton would perform much better, but as for cool factor this has McQueen’s personal stamp of approval. What more could you ask for?

This Frenchman Jean Francois Vicente is a man of my own heart. After riding ducati’s and Velocette thruxton he wanted something a bit more reliable and then discovered yamaha sr500’s. The rest is history. Now he owns VD Classic that specialises in custom Yamaha SR500’s and lots of other classic bikes. Heres a selection of Sr500’s from his gallery… I love that SR scrambler…
