DOUBLE TROUBLE. Sinroja Motorcycles’s Two-Up BMW R80 Brat

Posted on January 30, 2018 by Andrew in Brat. 31 comments

The Sinroja brother’s Leicester workshop has become somewhat of a Pipeburn haunt of late. Rahul and Birju are always happy to have us over to their Humberstone Lane lodgings, let us drink their beers and shoot the poop on life, internal combustion and everything…

It’s a country of over a billion people, thousands of years of invention and innovation, and just about everything you buy is made there or features something that was. Yet around the world there is those who still doubt the quality of product that comes from China, but in recent years the major motorcycle manufacturers have shown its not a fear they share…

TITLE FIGHTER. A BMW R80 Neo-Racer from Nozem Amsterdam

If the original design team at BMW knew that their sandals-with-socks tourers would get turned into bikes like this they would haves choked on their strudel. Despite their uninspiring origins, over the last ten years we’ve seen old Boxers shift to the forefront of the custom scene…

SMACK TORQUE. Kingston Custom’s No-Nonsense BMW R75 Bobber

Posted on January 6, 2018 by Andrew in Bobber, Classic. 37 comments

Plenty of people talk a big game and smack talk has filtered down from the highest levels of sport to the worst kind of keyboard warriors. Sometimes it can be funny, other times it’s down right wrong but there is something particularly satisfying about seeing the guy with the big mouth get taken down…

TIRING WORK. Diamond Atelier’s Bridgestone RnineT EICMA Special

Posted on December 23, 2017 by Andrew in Café Racer, Racer. 45 comments

We’re huge fans of BMW’s retro lineup here at Pipeburn. Hell, Andrew, the fearless co-founder of Pipeburn, recently shelled out his own hard-earned cash for a brand spanking new RnineT.  Lots of others have too. Since its release in 2014, the retro-inspired BMW has been sitting comfortably…

Plying your trade in a workshop that is literally a stones throw from the centre of Rome means any artist is surrounded by thousands of years of inspiration. A handy boost for those building custom bikes where the stimulus to creativity goes far beyond the mere mechanical…

PSYCHODRAMA. The ‘Schizzo’s Son’ BMW R nineT Cafe Racer by Walzwerk

Posted on December 13, 2017 by Andrew in Café Racer, Racer. 12 comments

The rather edgily named ‘Schizzo’ series of builds from Germany’s Walzwerk Racing were intended to show just how changeable the BMW R80 and R100 monolever bikes can be. You name the style, the bike can probably handle it…

KIDS BEHAVING RADLY. Clockwork’s Genre-Defying BMW R100 Enduro Brat

Listen to any good rock song from across the ages and that rhythmic pulse that you tap your foot to is provided by the bass player. Often maligned, rarely the charismatic front man, what they provide is the reliable foundation for every great song and band…

CHEQUERED PAST. Titan’s Very Seasoned BMW R80RT Endurance Racer

Posted on October 31, 2017 by Andrew in Café Racer, Racer. 27 comments

Here’s a movie idea. A BMW that’s owned by the chief of police gets purchased by a somewhat suspect hemp farmer who uses it for ‘deliveries’. It’s then customised by a bunch of Austrian bike freaks and turned into an endurance racer for a wealthy goldsmith. Too far-fetched to be believable? Think again, because that’s the gospel truth when it comes to the history of Titan Motorcycles’ latest build, a BMW R80RT endurance racer.

BIG BANG THEORY. Lucky Cat’s ‘Bombinette’ BMW Sprint Racer

Posted on October 19, 2017 by Andrew in Classic, Racer. 18 comments

The European ‘Sultans of Sprint’ race series is open to anyone with an air-cooled European twin and a penchant for insanity. Rather than just awarding points for running the quickest time down the short-range drag strip, extra marks are given for bike presentation, hair-raising moments on the track and how much the support crew drinks the night before the race meet. Having another crack at the title is France’s Lucky Cat Garage with their incredible Boxer-powered custom dubbed ‘The Bombinette’.
