Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride 2013

Posted on September 16th, by Scott in Other. No Comments

If you’re anything like me, you usually only wear a suit and tie to weddings, funerals and the odd court appearance  – it has been a while since the last one. So it’s great to add another occasion to the list. Yes, it’s that time of year again when the most dapper motorcyclists from around the world dust off their suits, polish their shoes, trim the beard, clean granddad’s smoking pipe, splash on a liberal amount of Old Spice and google the words ‘how to tie a tie’.

Pipeburn and Sydney Café Racers – Group Ride

Posted on February 11th, by Andrew in Other. No Comments

Here’s something we haven’t done in a very long while; a good old-fashioned group ride. It’s been more than a year since we did our last one with the lads from Sydney Cafe Racers, and that was a bit of a wash out. Not being ones to take such metrological insults lying down, we have decided to get together and do it all over again. And this time we’re inviting you.

So what do you have to do to join the fray? If you live in Sydney and you are free this coming Sunday, the 17th of February then all you have to do is meet us at Audley car park in the Royal National Park at 9am. From there we’ll cruise down south for a spot of lunch in Kangaroo Valley. Easy. All bikes types and skill levels are welcome. There will be a support vehicle, photographers and a film crew on the day. More details here. Feel free to ask questions in the comments below.

(As always, sorry to our interstate and international readers. If you start pulling your bike apart now and sending it via FedEx, you just might make it in time.)

Photos: “On One Particular Sunday”

Posted on December 7th, by Andrew in Other. 1 Comment

Ever had a day, riding or otherwise, that ends up etched into your petroleum-stained brain and a kind of surreal movie that you can’t believe actually happened? The days where completely without the aid of silly biscuits, you have to think twice about them just to make sure that you aren’t about to relate the experience to someone as if it was a real life event when it was in fact just a dream that your memory cortex hadn’t filed properly. The days where you just suddenly get this moment of crystalline clarity burst into your head like a sniper’s bullet from a thousand yards and you ask yourself, “how the Keith Richards did I get here?” The days where you are just waiting for some unseen director to yell “cut” and then you suddenly see behind the facades and through the fog and realise that it’s all a show for a secret audience and somehow you have been in the starring role all along. Have you? We all did. It was last Sunday, and it was pretty fucking strange to put it mildly. Weird weather, weird bikes, weird people. Weird scenes inside the goldmine? Almost, my friend, almost. Cut.

PS. Many thanks to the Sydney Cafe Racer crew for staring along side us. Next time bring the sun with you.

Summer Ride Reminder – “On One Particular Sunday”

Posted on November 24th, by Andrew in Other. No Comments

T-minus 10 days and counting. Excited? Should bloody hope so! You’ll be getting wall-to-wall bikes, one of the best rides in Sydney, and that cool/slightly punk-ish feeling you can only get by riding in a pack of probably-a-little-too-loud motorbikes on public roads. Miss it and you’ll be crying into that pillow of yours – you know, the one covered with cute little teady bear cafe racers. So don’t risk a massive-ish laundry bill and those unsightly red eyes; get your metallic moving machine and your silly-ass self down to the Kirrawee BP service station at 9am on Sunday December 4th for a 9:30 start. If you missed the original post check it out here to get all the detailed, er, details. As always, if the weather looks iffy be sure and check out our Facebook page the night before to get the final thumbs up or down.

Live overseas? You better start riding right about now. And remember, if you get up enough speed and hit the water just right, you’ll be able to ride all the way here without getting wet. Honestly.

Video – Pipeburn Meat Burn and Burn 2011

Posted on November 12th, by Andrew in Video. No Comments

Well, it’s taken five months and we’ve endured a few very frustrating set-backs but finally and without any further a due, we’d proudly like to present to you the third in a never-ending series of Pipeburn videos. This time it’s a little ditty to let you all share the fun and action of our winter ride-out, namely the Pipeburn Meat Burn & Burn which we undertook in June of this year. It was a damn good day and we can’t wait for the next one with the boys from Sydney Cafe Racers on December 4th. Many thanks to Toby and Semih for shooting the whole thing on their trusty DSLRs. Also thanks to my trusty partner in crime Scott for his fly GoPro skills. No one stares into a wide angle lens quite like you, bro. And thanks of course to all the riders who attended – we hope to see you on the next one. I’d also like to add an extra bag of thanks to Toby, who not only put up with me directing him on the day, but then came back for another serving of my farcical ineptitude by helping me edit the thing and then grading the whole kaboodle to make it look real pro-fesh-shin-al like. You sir, are a true legend! Music is a track by one of my all-time favourite bands; their name is Pavement and the track is called “Father to a Sister of a Thought”. Please, you likey likey?

PS. The guy in the orange bubble visor is Jordan. Yes, he seems to appear in quite a few of the shots. No, we didn’t plan it that way. He informs us he and his Red Bull-powered Honda are currently looking for a manager and will be available for weddings and bah mitzvahs in the very near future.

2011 Ton-Up Boys Rockers Ride – Sydney

Posted on November 6th, by Scott in Classic, Other. No Comments

Some things just don’t go together. Like politics and honesty. Aluminum foil and microwaves. And another one I learnt today – lycra and leather. You see, today in sunny Sydney it was one of the bigger motorcycle rides of the year organised on the same day as one of the biggest cycling events of the year. Both groups travelling the same roads. You can see where this is going, right? Unfortunately the organisers didn’t. Luckily the very eclectic mix of bikers were a patient bunch and no cyclist got hurt – except a couple of plump people pulling hamstrings. So as per usual we encountered a few problems shooting ‘complete’ bikes. Loads of people plus loads of bikes in a small area isn’t the best equation. So before you ask to see more of the actual bikes (not just the art house tank shots) be assured we have a few features coming up of these bikes and more. So for now, enjoy these tasty entrees…

Pipeburn Summer Ride – “On One Particular Sunday”

Posted on October 24th, by Andrew in Other. 1 Comment

The pyramids. They are definitely big. WWII was pretty big. The Beatles were big. Landing on the moon. That was really big. Guttenberg’s printing press? Biiig. That whole Jesus thing was also damn enormous. And the Big Bang? Biggest. Thing. Ever. But imagine, if you will, an all-you-can-eat smorgasbord of these major milestones; the biggest collection of big bigs that have ever been. Close your eyes and imagine Hitler, Lennon and Jesus, in spacesuits standing on a pyramid on the moon with freshly printed copies of the original Guttenberg bible in their hands a nanosecond before the universe collapses into a catastrophic second big bang. Got that image in yr head? You see the moon dust on the sandals? Smell the ink and parchment? Giggling at Adolf’s grimace as he stares down his nose at Lennon and mumbles something about “All We Need is Love mein arsch!” Got it? Good.

This will be bigger.

I was lucky enough to get an invite to tag along with the uber fun Mister Mark Hawwa and his band of merry Sydney Cafe Racers rebel rousers (yes, them again) last Sunday for their first ever ride-out. Unfortunately Scott couldn’t make it (he has his macramé classes every Sunday morning) so I was left holding the fort, or handlebars and camera in this case. Though not at the same time. Mostly. There were some silly cool bikes along for the ride, including the super slick Matt Machine Yamaha XS with her new owner Rob – but more on them soon. In the meantime, here’s the best of snaps. We please hope you do like very muchly.

That shit’s bananas – Mark’s monkey-tanked SR

Well, it took one demolished W800, a dead monster snake, 25 steak sandwiches, one flaccid SR rear fender, 342 monkey tanks full of fuel, 18 Gigs of raw video, a roll of gaffer, 12 cameras and five bike-packed ferries, but we got there in the end. It was a killer day of sweet bikes, high drama and new friends. I know we said “annual”, but it would seem like waiting another 12 months could be too long…

The First Annual Pipeburn Meat Burn & Burn

Posted on April 26th, by Andrew in Other. 52 comments

Here’s something that’s been hanging on the ideas board for a while now. A Pipeburn ride day. Yes, you read that correctly. Us. You. The builders. The bikes. Great views. A killer ride. Got your attention now? Thought so. But that’s not all – not by a long stretch. See, if we get our shite together, we’re looking to carbonise some meat to boot. It simply does not get any better than this, gentlefolk. Understandably, some of you may have lost your senses right about now so take a moment, breath, lay down for a while if need be and when you’ve recovered your composure read on…
