Within the course of an hour I went from wanting to roll my bike off a cliff to howling like a wolf with overwhelming happiness. Now that I have been racing for a number of years I can tell you that this is completely normal. Racing can bring lows and outright frustrations, but it can also bring you the sweetest joy and sense of accomplishment possible.
Walking through the rows of bikes recently at a small regional motorcycle show, I got chatting to a guy who’d just finished a three-year rebuild of a Triumph 6T Thunderbird. She was a beauty, glistening in the sun like the day it had left the factory floor. With great enthusiasm I asked the owner how it was on the open road, the answer sadly is one that’s becoming all too common, “It doesn’t leave the garage!” Thankfully the motorcycle gods have given us Kengo Kimura of Hiroshima’s Heiwa Motorcycles who builds the most incredible old school customs and boy are they built to ride. His latest offering is a ’58 Triumph Tiger T110 that’s original patina earns it the nickname ‘Flavor’.
Steak and chips, or “steak-frites” as they say in good old parlevouz freakin’ Francais, is easily my favourite meal. Sure it ain’t so damn fancy but the sheer delight of a good steak, some French Fries and a glass of red gets me going like no other meal. Yes, I know what you are all thinking – I need to get out a little more and try some new culinary experiences. But you’d be wrong. See, if it breathes and is made of meat, I’ve probably digested it. Snake? Check. Kangaroo? You bet. Camel? Went back for seconds. Dog? Woof! And you can add frogs, snails, chicken’s feet, a pile of offal, blood jelly, bugs, worms, grubs, ants, small birds, live fish, and one time I almost ate a little old lady who went by the name of “Shirley,” but that’s another story altogether. But in the end, it’s steak and chips that keeps me coming back. And back. You just can’t beat the classics, can you? The timeless masterpieces that never go out of date. See where I’m going here? Marvel-Us Customs are a small custom shop from Phoenix, Arizona. They specialize in building cutting edge vintage and pre 80’s bikes to show stopping quality. They also have a love for British bikes. Like this beautifully restored Triton. Here’s a list of specs (deep breath)… The bike is a 1956 Triumph T110 pre unit motor with a 750cc morgo kit and dual 930 amal carbs. The frame is the classic 1964 Norton featherbed slimline. The rims are Akront high shoulder rims, it has 19″ dunlop front and back. Haward belt drive and the swing arm was streched 2 1/2″ for a longer base and to fit the 19 x4.0 in the narrow norton swing arm. Got all that?
