Trip to Deus

Posted on April 11, 2009 by Scott in Classic, Racer. No Comments

I love going to Deus. I don’t enjoy going there with my ankle biters but hey i had no choice today.

They have so many great bikes in every corner. Discovered this little beauty in one of the corners today (next to the fire extinguisher and water cooler). A Yamaha R5 350cc from the seventies. Makes me want to put on my leathers and take on Mr Stoner.
I love the description (sales pitch) on the the ‘price tag’. If you can’t read it heres what it says…
“350cc 2 stroke bike with disc brake upgrade. Will need very little to get up and running again. Go racing, its fun, it’ll make you a better rider, meet new friends, meet beautiful women, get rich, get bigger muscles, rub shoulders with super stars,…” I’ll take two (not that i need bigger muscles)!

LUXE Motorcycle

Yes, it is another Japanese custom shop. But these guys are doing things a little different. They look like they are really experimenting with tanks, pipes and paint jobs. Pretty distinctive. They are called Luxe Motorcycle Factory and they also have lots of other bikes on their website thats definitely worth checking out. Mostly SR400/500’s and w650’s.

This Frenchman Jean Francois Vicente is a man of my own heart. After riding ducati’s and Velocette thruxton he wanted something a bit more reliable and then discovered yamaha sr500’s. The rest is history. Now he owns VD Classic that specialises in custom Yamaha SR500’s and lots of other classic bikes. Heres a selection of Sr500’s from his gallery… I love that SR scrambler…

30th Anniversary SR400

Posted on January 11, 2009 by Scott in Classic. 2 comments

Yamaha is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the SR400/500 motorcycle series. This is a limited edition 2008 SR400 they have released. I am guessing it will be quite hard to get your hands on one. I would almost keep it stock if i bought one. no point turning one into a cafe racer. they do look beautiful as is. You can still buy these in Japan at reasonable prices. There’s also rumours that Yamaha are going to stop producing the SR400 in 2009 so these could really be collectors items.

The SR400 Search

Posted on January 10, 2009 by Scott in Classic. No Comments

I have decided to purchase a Yamaha SR400 for my Cafe Racer project. After having a look around on bikepoint.com.au and deus.com.au it looks like you cant get a Sr400 for less than 6-7k. Now i have looked around on some japanese websites and there are so many sweet sr400’s for around 200,000 Yen (which is around $2500 Australian). I know it is going to cost me shipping one over, plus the compliance plates but i am going to give it a go. Plus I have some contacts in Japan that might be able to help me.

This is one website in the north of Japan that has some great buys…

www.eaglejp.co.jp

This looks like a pretty straight Yamaha sr400 for 200,000 yen. Has 14,000km on it but thats not too bad…
