BAD COP, BADDER COP. VTR’s ‘Polizia 1.9’ Blown BMW Nitrous Racer

Posted on June 27, 2018 by Andrew in Classic, Racer. No Comments

What is it about ex-police vehicles? The thought of nabbing something that used to enforce the law seems to really float our boats. Hell, muscle cars seem to increase in value if they were used by the boys in blue. But there’s a perverse pleasure at play when you take an ex-police bike a turn it into a drag racer…

Posted on May 4, 2018 by Andrew in Racer. No Comments

The mad crew at VTR Customs prove that there’s an undercurrent of beautiful craziness running through the alps. Maybe it’s in the mountain water. But the end result of this rich vein of madness are bikes like this – a NOS powered BMW R1200R racer dubbed ‘Veneno Blanco’ – Spanish for ‘White Poison’…

‘Eddie 21’ BMW R1200R Racer – VTR Customs

Posted on March 21, 2017 by Andrew in Racer. 24 comments

Think about American motor racing legend Eddie Lawson for a moment. You’re probably picturing him on the early 80s Kawasaki Z1000 he made famous. Or maybe it’s the mid 80s 500cc World Championship Marlboro Yamaha. Or, at a stretch, it could be his Rothman’s Honda of the late 80s. And unless you’d had one too many disco biscuits, a BMW boxer is probably the last bike that was on your mind. That’d never work. Or would it? Maybe we’ve all had one too many biscuits, because from the moment we laid eyes on this Eddie-inspired No. 21 R1200R, the latest build from Switzerland’s VTR Customs, we were smitten. Eddie on a Beemer? Human sacrifice? Dogs and cats living together? Count us in.

1998 Honda VTR 1000F – ‘Christine’

Posted on January 31, 2012 by Andrew in Café Racer, Other, Racer. 69 comments

Christine – more shiny stuff than a dictator’s palace

Every time we post a bike, Scott and I sweat over a good “angle” to open the piece with. Something unique about the bike that will grab a reader’s attention and help them get into the story. Sometimes it’s to do with the owner’s job or a neat little ditty about the bike itself; where it was found or maybe something to do with a tasteless mod a previous owner had done. Most of the time it’s pretty slim pickings, whether it’s lack of time on our behalf or stories that just aren’t that wacky we often end up pulling stuff out of some pretty damn thin air. Then there’s bikes like Tyler Mill’s Honda VTR. This bike has more angles than a cubist painting; it killed its first owner when only a few days old. Then it was repaired and ridden by Honda salesmen. Then it was customised in what I can only describe as a “zombie killer” style. Then it was plumbed with nitrous. If you told us aliens had done a burnout on it while riding it across Roswell with a young JFK looking on in a giant octopus costume, we’d just about believe you. Hello Christine you strange, strange woman.

LEFT FIELD, BUT SO RIGHT: 1984 Honda Magna V30 by MotoRelic

Posted on February 24, 2020 by Scott in Café Racer. No Comments

Written by Martin Hodgson

Over the last ten years the custom scene has grown so big that you can practically build a show level bike with off the shelf parts. All the R&D has been done for you and even complex modifications for many models have become mainstream. Despite his demanding schedule, Sean Skinner of Virginia’s MotoRelic decided it was his turn for a bike of his own and chose a left-field option that would be no easy task and sans bolt-on options. But having previously taken out the No. 2 spot in the Pipeburn Bike of the Year, there was never any doubt he’d hit it out of the park with this incredible transformation of a 1984 Honda Magna V30.

Posted on March 11, 2019 by Andrew in Classic, Event. No Comments

When you think about it, Italy having one of the world’s biggest and best bike shows makes total sense. Motorcycles seem to be at the very heart of the Italian psyche. Motorcycles are Italy and Italy is motorcycles. And one visit to a show like Motor Bike Expo 2019 only drives the point home…
